The Control Room Engineer E&W Stations is responsible to ensure safe and efficient operation of the power and water units, to work in accordance with standard operating procedures related to routine & non-routine operations, to communicate with the power and desalination control room operators to exchange information relating to operating conditions. He will also be responsible for making accurate and timely decisions on matters affecting the processes of power and water units consulting the shift manager. Keeps the Shift Manager advised of recent developments and provide functional directions to field operators. He handles the start-up / shut down, all types of emergency operations and troubleshooting e.g. a unit trip, a minor or major power or water production interruption and even a total power loss. Takes periodic log readings at specified intervals and suggests any modification required in the operating procedures.
Must be able to understand all HSE instructions, be fully conversant with HSE Policies, principles and procedures and effluent & emission standards for compliance with environmental regulations. Should be able to identify hazards, report near misses, accidents; provide support to incident controller in emergency situation and be part of emergency response team under supervision of the firefighting team leader; and obtain the Safety Controller Authorization before the end of the probation period.
The Control Room Engineer reports to the Shift Manager.
Understanding of power plant and associated auxiliary layout, operating parameters and operating practices.
Understanding of power plant electrical systems and electrical switching.
Knowledge of local environmental legislations and environmental aspects related to plant activities, health& safety and should possess the capability of understanding and implementing the operating policies and principles of management system.
Knowledge of company safety rules and possessing the capability to be authorized as safety controller
Understanding of power plant commercial requirements.
Anticipating and responding effectively to operational demands on the station and assist in achieving safe and efficient power generation and water production
Ability to control incidents in a range of situations and in event of an abnormality on the unit checks all alarm & relevant data on process computers, checks parameter trend, the sequence of events and analyze them to ascertain the reason of abnormality and report to the shift manager.

Minimum 10 years’ experience in operations among which 5 years’ at a similar level of responsibility.
Detailed understanding and practical experience of the technologies associated with Steam Turbines, Gas Turbines and Desalination plants.
B.Sc. degree in Engineering
Good spoken & written English
